Japanese teacher Yoshie San

Hi, Sue

Thank you for concerning about us. Yes, I agree.
Preparedness is what we need.
By preparing, we can decrease the damage
from disasters.

Last year, my school students made a disaster safety map against Typhoon.
We found that all the trees near school and along the street are protected
by iron bars.

All the shops have strong shatters against wind and rain.
The city has the good facility for sewage.
We learned a lot by making the safety map.

Warmly
Yoshie

Thank you Mr. Tai, Abe and Yoshie

Dear Mr. Tai, Abe and Yoshie,

Thank you for the cordial welcomes to us. It's my pleasure to meet you in Kaohsiung in 2006 NDYS gathering. We had a wonderful time there with all the teachers and students and can't wait for the coming cooperation with you.

Tomorrow will be our first NDYS class this school year. Some key words about natural disasters will be introduced to them.

In fact, a terrible typhoon followed by floods just hit us and caused 5 people dead and great damage. Terrible! http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/7618946.stm

Greetings from Taipei San-Min, Taiwan, to NDYS partners

Dear friends,
We are so happy to join NDYS2009. This year we have 15 students and 2 teachers, the other is Miss Kate Chang.

The following short introduction is written by one of the students, Kevin.

Hi, teachers and friends,
I am Kevin Chen, a student in class 802, Taiwan. We are the junior high school students and we are all fourteen years old. My teacher is Miss Su. She is friendly.

We joined NDYS2008 last year and we sent our bear to Pakistan.

Taiwan is a beautiful country. If you come here, you can see many people and trees. Taiwanese foods are delicious. I like beef noodles best because it tastes a little bit sour and spicy. But Taiwan has more than beef noodles, I will tell you more next time because I have to go to cram school tonight.

We are so glad to be friends with you. Keep in touch.
Kevin
p.s. I am the cute boy on the left, the other one is my classmate Willy, and the bear and other presents are for Pakistan.

TN US Natural Disaster Project

Cross-posting for your reference:

Greetings Yosie and all involved with the NDYS project.

We have a late start for our project but we are now working on our emergency kit items to purchase, safety maps, and the assembly of our emergency kits for each of our 32 classrooms at our school of 643 students.

This is our peak Tornado season so we want to be prepared. We also sit on a fault line but it is not active. We have determined two safe areas for our school in the event of an earthquake and have identified several areas within the building that would be safe in the event of a torando. Some tornados hit Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama, and Georgia yesterday. I spent today purchasing supplies for the kits. We will be making a trail mix using cereal, marshmallows, and raisins for each kit. In addition we will have $300. worth of bottled water delivered to the school for inclusion in the kits. We will also be putting in flashlights with batteries and some hand sanitizer. Our project was funded by a small grant from the Junior League of Chattanooga.

I have been taking some pictures and will be adding more later this week. Here is the website for you all to take a peak and keep checking back. We will be assembling our kits on April 18th. I purchased clear plastic backpacks to use for the kits. In addition, we will be making posters for the safe areas within the school.

Hello, Pakistan, a student's letter to you by Sandy Chien

Dear teacher, Naila and friends,
This is Sandy Chien, a 7th grade student of San-Min High School . I joined the “Teddy Bear” Project this March. I am so happy to have this chance to know friends from your beautiful country, Pakistan and exchange Bears with you.

I like to introduce our country a little bit. We have night markets almost in every city, and they are the places I love to go. Many interesting things are sold there, like foods, clothes, shoes, purses, toys and games.

I love to eat there, especially oyster omelets, sticky tofu and wheel pies. Oyster Omelets are oyster, eggs, vegetable and some sticky flour mixed together and then cooked. Sticky tofu isn’t dirty at all, but it has a special smell. Wheel Pies are sweet and delicious.
There are many fashionable and beautiful clothes, shoes and bags. Most of them are cheap, so I love to buy some there.
As for games, shooting balloons, catching fish with a small paper net, marble game and many other interesting games.

If you have the chance to visit us someday, I will be very glad to be your guide there. Waiting for your introduction to your beautiful country.

Your new friend
Sandy Chien and class 702

Hello, we are back to school from winter vacation.

Hi, dear Naila,
This is Sue Su and class 702.
It's been amost a month since our last mail. How have you been these days?
Today is our first day to school after a three-week summer vacation and our Chinese New Year in between.

We'd like to know how is the teddy bear project going there? Did you finish your Safty map yet? As for us, I just introduced them the project and some intenet information since we only had 13 hours for it. And for the coming semester this year, I am still working on it.

Hope you have a better progress than us.
Best wishes to you all.
Sue Su
